The British Academy of Fashion Design is an accredited provider of the British Accreditation Council (BAC).
Completing this course will enable you to design and create your own clothing by developing basic skills and techniques of fashion design.
Created for enthusiasts, the course is designed around five practical assignments. You will incrementally develop your techniques and understanding of the industry through each assignment.
As a home study student you will have full access to our student area, the Online Learning Centre, which contains course material created by industry experts including: instructional videos, written content and assignments.
Our tutors provide all the support, knowledge and in-depth feedback you need to progress through your course and are always contactable through the Online Learning Centre.
This course can be completed in approximately 3 months*.

- Techniques & Processes
Develop the skills that enable you as a fashion designer to create innovative shapes through draping on a mannequin. Learn how to generate ideas for an outfit and create mood boards to explore different themes and styles. Develop design ideas using sketching, collage and draping. This is the perfect place to start to learn the different techniques and processes at the core of the fashion industry. You will learn about:

Learn about the properties of fabrics, their weights and appropriate uses. You will experiment with fabric manipulation techniques, learn how to create a swatch book and develop designs based on your discoveries. Complete your very own garment, using deconstruction/reconstruction methods. You will learn about:
- Creating a swatch book
- Understanding technical aspects of fabrics
